Economic Impact Study

In 2021, the state’s tribal spending contributed more than $25 billion to the economy, supported over 112,500 jobs, provided $7.6 billion in labor income for state workers, and generated over $3 billion in tax revenue for federal, state, and local governments. These figures show significant growth over the past decade: gaming operations have more than doubled in economic impact, while the impact of non-gaming operations grew by 250%. Jobs supported by gaming increased by over 50%, and those supported by non-gaming grew by 85%. Tax revenues generated from gaming doubled, while non-gaming tax revenues grew by over 200%.

Additionally, California’s gaming tribes had a significant social impact through revenue-sharing agreements like the RSTF and TNGF. In 2021, $81 million was distributed to economically disadvantaged tribes, generating nearly $168 million in economic output, around $58 million in labor income, and supporting over 560 jobs. Charitable donations from gaming tribes further bolstered local communities, with $77 million given to causes such as education, health services, and public safety, resulting in nearly $158 million in output, over 530 jobs, and over $54 million in labor income.
